FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS…

What if I can’t attend a scheduled appointment?

Once you have confirmed your appointments, it’s essential to the process that you prioritise your attendance. I do understand that circumstances change and unexpected events can occur, so I ask that you call with as much notice and leave a message if you cannot attend.

How many sessions are normal?

There are no normal number of sessions as each person is different. The session will be booked up to two sessions in advance and throughout the process we will assess and discuss your journey.

Will people find out I am in counselling?

Your confidentiality is very important to me. I am bound by the ethical framework of the BACP, which requires me to ensure our information is not shared with anyone without your permissions, except under a rare circumstances such as a court order. Confidentiality will be discussed at the beginning of your therapy and throughout if necessary.

Can I contact you if I need to talk in between sessions?

All contact between a counsellor and a client should take place within counselling sessions. I do understand the gap in between sessions can seem a long time and lots of anxieties and questions may manifest. However, no contact between sessions ensures an effective and professional relationship.

I advise that any questions, thoughts and feelings that arise in-between sessions be written down. This can be discussed at the next scheduled appointment.

If the feeling of anxiety and stress becomes too overwhelming you can call the Samaritans’ free 24-hour helpline on 116 123.
